Project Wonderland is a 100% Java open source toolkit for creating collaborative 3D virtual worlds. I stumbled over it after I realized that the Looking Glass Desktop project from Sun is not active anymore. But Project Wonderland can also run X11 Application in its 3D worlds. That allows real collaboration as all applications can be viewed and controlled by multiple users.

I was interested in how far this goes. I set up a Wonderland Server on my Linux machine (built from source, SVN revision: 4332). After that I opened the KDE VNC client KRDC and used it to log in to another machine. There I opened a Wonderland client too. Suprisingly everything went well! Here is a video demo:
